Colossians 2:1-5: Rooted in Suffering (Rooted)

Sunday Apr 28, 2024
Welcome to the 2nd sermon in our series on how the kingdom of heaven that Jesus introduced grew in the church in Colossae (2 of 4).
Following Jesus’ teachings about the Kingdom of God in the Sermon on the Mount and then his death and resurrection, his disciples were given the charge to now live out this new reality as a people called “the church.” What did that look like? What were the problems? The distractions? The errors and the successes? What can we learn from the early church as they committed themselves to living out the teachings of Jesus while resting in the salvation of Jesus?
As a local church called “Refuge,” we need this reminder now more than ever. It’s an exciting time, but we can become easily distracted. So let’s take a walk through Colossians 2 and remind ourselves the deepest calling of the people of God.

Sunday Mar 10, 2024
Welcome to the 31st sermon in our series on meeting Jesus through The Sermon on the Mount. (31 of 31)
"The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand." The most famous sermon ever preached. Some of the most profound words ever spoken. Practices that have become part of everyday life. Words used to defend, to justify, to exploit, to heal and to wound. . .words sometimes taken out of context. Jesus introduces the Sermon on the Mount by saying that the "kingdom of heave is at hand!" This is a pretty bold and loaded statement, and we want to take our time to consider what this means! what is the Kingdom of Heaven? What are the ethics of this kingdom? What is the economy of this kingdom? Who are her citizens, and how do they act? What do they value? So many good questions that might leave us "astonished" and asking the question: "...then what is our hope?" Join us as we explore the kingdom of heaven through the Sermon on the Mount and become more acquainted with The Good King.
