God intends The Church to be a contrast society. It is to show a watching world how to do community, to be the place where the divisions that are present in the culture are absent. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote “There was a time when the church was very powerful – in the time when the early Christians rejoiced at being deemed worthy to suffer for what they believed.
